Volunteer Guidelines

Adopted in August 2025

At Wattle Pathways, we believe in the value of volunteering as an important expression of citizenship and an essential component of our civic and career services. Whilst our Board is working to develop a volunteer recruitment and management policy, this volunteer guideline explains who can volunteer with us, our recruitment process, our expectations of our volunteers and our volunteers’ rights and responsibilities.

1. Who can volunteer with us

We benefit immensely from our dedicated and generous volunteers. Our board members and current ambassadors are all volunteers.

We accept volunteers from all sections of the community such as socio-economic status, gender, marital status, disability, or race.

You can support us as a volunteer in the following roles:

  • Ambassador – to help us with our advocacy and fundraising efforts, identifying potential tutors and student referrals
  • Tutor – to help school-aged children who cannot afford to pay full fees for tutoring sessions with their school subjects
  • Mentor – for young people to build their confidence and help them understand their career pathways
  • Organiser – to help us arrange our online/in-person workshops etc.
  • Admin support – to help with writing grant proposals, IT support, and social media outreach.

2. Recruitment process

All volunteers should complete this form and provide a valid photo ID. One of our team members will reach out to you in five working days.

Volunteers will be required to attend an initial meeting/interview and provide us with at least two references.

3. Expectations of our volunteers

We expect our volunteers to:

  • Agree with the mission of Wattle Pathways
  • Adhere to our Volunteer Policy as adopted by our Board.
  • Provide a valid Working with Children Check [or equivalent check in other states or territories] from their relevant state agency
  • Comply with our adopted and developing policies including the Privacy Policy and Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
  • Undertake voluntary work at agreed times
  • Inform their coordinator if they are unable to attend a session
  • Give timely notice if unable to continue volunteering
  • Raise any issues of concern relating to their voluntary work with their program coordinator

4. Volunteer rights and responsibilities

We support our volunteers with:

  • Appropriate induction and training
  • Regular supervision to ensure they carry out their assigned duties
  • Reimbursement of a volunteer’s out-of-pocket expenses as agreed in advance by the relevant program coordinator
  • Ensuring adequate public liability and personal incident insurance.

5. Volunteer Policy

All volunteers will be informed of, and are expected to adhere to our Volunteer Policy as adopted by our Board.
